For those who haven't heard of it, Authonomy is a website put up by HarperCollins that allows authors to put all or part of their novels or short stories up for others to read and comment on and allows readers to read unpublished authors' works.
Anyone who signs in can make comments and rate authors, as well as put them on their bookshelves. If authors get on enough bookshelves, HarperCollins editors read the manuscript with the possibility that they might choose it for publication.
If you like to read and interact with authors, this is a great site. I've read several excellent works, at least one of which is now being considered by an editor. I'll be surprised if it's not picked up because of the quality of the writing and the interesting story.
Here's the link: http://www.authonomy.com/
If you are an author, I encourage you to upload at least part of your work. If you are a reader, I encourage you to read new works, including mine, or works in progress. If you like what you read, then you should make comments and back the book to help the author.
This site takes time but offers real substance to readers and writers alike.
