Skoob Press: Our Purpose

Vision Statement: Skoob Press is an interactive artistic community of people who believe that the things of this world point to another, more glorious world and that life is rich and full of mystery and meaning if we only have the eyes to see and the ears to hear.

Her Life as She Knew It is the first of what we believe will be many books that challenge readers to see the world in a new light, as well as to provide stories with characters the reader cares about.

Beginning 2011, we will also begin to construct a story right here on our blog. And you can be part of it by going on this blog or following us on Twitter. We invite readers to answer a series of questions, the answers to which will, over time, weave together into a tapestry that tells a beautiful story . . . because everyone loves a good story.

THE UNHEWN STONE

THE UNHEWN STONE is a coming of age novel, set in 1307AD Switzerland, where a modern youth is trapped in the Wilhelm Tell legend. This hero's journey is underpinned with alchemy, religion, myth and magic. On the surface the story is a fast paced YA adventure, but the deeper philosophic layers should appeal to adults. The e-book is ideal holiday reading, especially since the story begins and ends at Christmas.

By means of an alchemist's golden orb, eighteen-year old Stefan Gessler, the Chosen One, travels back to the medieval world to forestall the events of the Wilhelm Tell legend. His mission is to save an ancestor's life, discover the cause of the alchemist fear and learn how to change base metal into gold. But Stefan is forced to face his own demons and those of medieval Switzerland; he discovers he'll need more than his superior knowledge to equip him for life in the Middle Ages.

Stefan is mistaken for the alchemist and accused of complicity in murder. Almost everything he does meets with disapproval and thrusts him and his companions into one dangerous adventure after another. Unable to return to his own time, because Tell steals half of the magic orb, Stefan must outwit his pursuers: an evil knight and a shape-shifting sibyl in the guise of Ursula, the modern beauty Stefan desires. The villains are determined Stefan won't leave the 14th century alive.

Influenced by Rolf, a nobleman in love with the wild Eva Tell; a young soldier; an innkeeper's daughter, a Black Monk, and young Heidi, who waits for him in his own time, the proud, arrogant Stefan confronts his ignorance and fear. He discovers a hero and learns the unexpected truth about the Tell legend which will have a profound effect on himself and his family honour.
